Hi all… am just coming round the last couple of bends in marking all your amazing livejournals. What I feel is really needed is some place where after you have written your blog you advertise it on some kind of noticeboard so that we could then simply go to the noticeboard to see what items attract our attention. I just put this question to the LJ Help line… they may come up with something different… but maybe one of you out there have a thought about this too:
Hi- I am a teacher managing around 200 student livejournals. It would be great if I could create some kind of noticeboard where students could post up interesting topics in their individual blogs. This would allow all students to go to the notice board and have a look see for what they would like to respond to. I was thinking I might create a community and call it something like “Noticeboard” then get all students to create a link to this in their own journals and the at the end of each of their posts (if they wanted to) go to the Noticeboard and advertise their blog… what do you think? does that seem the best way to do such a thing within LJ?

The noticeboard thing is a great idea and I used to wonder that myself when looking through the URL list… it’s always a shame to miss out on posting a reply to someone who is thinking along your wavelength! Hopefully someone within LJ can help you out on a way to get the notice board happening within LJ, but if not you could always have a discussion box in webct and each person can create a thread on their new message subject, so if the subject is for instance “Garner’s journalistic style of writing” and someone has already created a thread and your entry relates to that too you could reply to that to notify of your entry – the same kinds of entries within a thread so its organised. But something within LJ or a LJ community would be better but just a suggestion 🙂 I wonder if within LJ they have a way of automatically updating a noticeboard without manually replying….?
By the way, your grandson is adorable! (and so tiny-winy)

Hi MG, I think your idea for some kind of noticeboard for LJ is great although I’m not sure how many people would be willing to promote/advertise themselves, as was suggested in today’s lecture. I was thinking that perhaps creating certain categories might be a good idea? For example if someone wanted to find posts where people have specifically talked about a certain text we’ve looked at, those posts could be grouped together somehow? Like if we’ve just looked at “Under Milk Wood”, that could be a category in itself where all the posts about that text can be listed so a person wanting to comment specifically on that could easily find a person who’s written about it? I don’t know that might be a bit complicated! More general categories might be easier. I do think it’s a good idea though, even though most people probably aren’t shameless self promoters! There could be a way of doing it without people having to really advertise maybe? These are just some thoughts based on what we were discussing today!
