William Blake was one of the first British artists to depict an Aboriginal Family of New South Wales. This was based on an etching done by the Governor Gidley King. Blake never visited Australia but he clearly had a passionate connection with the indigenous inhabitants of Australia and their customs. Blake’s poem “A Little Black Boy” is according to art historian Bernard Smith a poem about an Aboriginal boy.
