It was very satisfying seeing you all back and ready for another Semester of Literature. I’m sorry yesterday was so crowded- both in terms of the room space AND in terms of the content. I always underestimate HOW LONG it takes to get through all the technical stuff before getting down to the content…. you’d think that after nearly thirty years!!!! but let’s not go there. I trust that you will really enjoy the plays and the poetry during this semester… and as I said yesterday you will find many issues in common between then and now… a world in the process of rethinking its very foundations. Twelfth Night shows a rather chaotic world and the quest for some kind of stability through Lurve… Discussion Groups have now been created and I am actually trying to get permission to put some video clips of two versions of Twelfth Night onto WebCT as a discussion starter… but I may run into some copywright issues… so keep your fingers crossed.
In the meantime I have found a new room that will accomodate us all for the lecture… it is just round the corner TS01… not such a nice room, but at least we will all have a seat. And the Wednesday 2pm Tutorial will be in TS 23.
See you tomorrow for a dose of early 16th Century poetry… you should have fun trying to make sense of Skelton, Wyatt and Surrey. See the “Essential Supporting Documents” Reading Schedule page 1 for the specific poems.
