Start of Week 2

Hi all- well we are getting into our stride and the LiveJournal URLs are coming in thick and fast. I didn’t get a chance to say it at the end of last week, but I was very excited by the sea of lively first year faces at the lecture on Friday… another 100 Literature students to fill our quadrangle and keep the spirit of literature and poetry alive on this campus. That is simply fantastic. And I know you are all agonizing a little at the moment as you “learn the ropes”… we are setting sail on a storm-tossed ocean (with boxes of books, URLs, WebCT pages etc etc) while the Captain is trying to steer the ship into calmer waters. But don’t worry we have cohorts of 2nd and 3rd year students eager to scramble on board and give a helping hand… so make them your friends too and get talking and find out what it is like in the calmer seas!
In the meantime….
I spent the weekend -some of it- troubleshooting WebCT/LiveJournal problems AND attending the christening of my third grandson Joshua. See pictures below: there are the two elder grandchildren (Leeara and Alexander)… there is the highpoint of the proceedings – the plunge into the water… and there is the godmother (my youngest daughter Helen) with her godchild and there finally is my son David’s whole little family: his wife Renee with Leeara, Alexander and Josh. A great time was had by all- especially the party afterwards that went late into the night. Thank you Josh….
Cheers
MG
And BTW David was also a student at ACU doing Environmental Science… he is a mad Birdo and has now transferred his enrollment to Uni of New England so that he can complete his degree on-line……

    Congratulations!

After reading about your most exciting weekend, I thought I might congratulate you, your son, his wife and the rest of your family on the christening of little Josh…and isn’t he a lady killer!

Actually I thought I would surprise you with a blast from the past…do you remember a Andrew Barrs that was one of your English Literature students perhaps 10 years ago? He is actually an English Advanced, 3unit and 4 unit English teacher at Freeman Catholic College in Bonnyrigg (about 30 minutes away from Strathfield toward the bush-Liverpoolish), also my former highschool. I was asked to go back there today to assist a current year 12 student with her 4 unit major work…a short film, which I also experienced producing last year.
He enlightened me to the fact that you actually lectured and tutored him when he was making his way through the ropes of ACU, and had nothing but praising comments about you, much to your credit! He was delighted to know that you still taught here and expressed his sincerest congratualtions and thanks for hanging in there to continue to relay your expertise.
I also wanted to ask if you had read the amazing critical novel titled “God’s Fool”, a fabuolous, educational resource concerning the poet Francis Webb? Funny that, isn’t it!!!It was also Andrew who informed me that you cleverly composed your own critical novel. Another great congratulations for an obviuosly wonderful display of talent!

Just a little note Michael, I promise I will read “God’s Fool”before the end of the year…some light reading for perhaps some inspiration!
