Ideas for LiveJournal Entries for Week One 2007

Hi all: a provisional plan is to post in here some suggestions each week for what you might like to try in your LiveJournal. So each week (as I pass through my three units: Shakespeare; Nineteenth Century and Introduction to Literature) I will jot down ideas for critical and creative responses to what we have been doing in each unit. I will come back to this very post each week and editinto it new ideas that come my way. So here goes:

Shakespeare: 1) Write a short letter to a friend telling them what “sprezzatura” is(was) and how it is still something worth practicing today. 2) Explain how your understanding of the meaning of love has changed since you read Castiglione/Hoby. 3)Write a short poem beginning with Lady Emilia’s line (Norton 659): “If you fall so often to offend us…” you can use her ideas in the text to shape your poem.

Nineteenth Century: 1) Answer the following question- From your response to lecture one: Can you see the relevance of Romanticism to the world today? 2) Write a poem/creative prose piece… that expresses your sense of the need for change in the world, in the way we lead our lives- you could start your poem by quoting the line (from Blake): “Tyger! Tyger! burning bright”….

Introduction to Literature: don’t do anything yet… till you have been shown what LJ is all about!
