SLA (formerly RLA) has been running conferences through Australian Catholic University since the early 1990s. A new wave of conferences focussing on the Sacred in Literature and the Arts (rather than Religion) came into being in the first decade of the 21st Century under the inspiration of Dr Elaine Lindsay and myself (Michael Griffith). The history of these conferences can be found in the two special issues of the Oxford based Literature and Theology journal. The first was Literature and Theology Volume 10, Issue 3, September 1996– Religion, Literature and the Arts (RLA) in Australia: https://academic.oup.com/litthe/issue/10/3; the second was Literature and Theology, Volume 31, Issue 2, June 2017– Grounding the Sacred in Literature and the Arts in Australia: https://academic.oup.com/litthe/issue/31/2
